The Bradford House Museum is again sponsoring two Poster Contests, open to all middle and high school students in Washington and Greene Counties, on a topic of Western Pennsylvania history, 1750 – 1850. Students are required to construct a presentation on a standard size trifold display board, register online during January and February and deliver the project to the Bradford House in early March.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 5 entries in each division:  Middle School (grades 5-8) and High School (grades 9-12).

Winning projects will be displayed at the  Symposium on 18^th Century Life and Customs in Western Pennsylvania, on March 18, 2016.

Research Resources:  A collection of primary and secondary resources on the Whiskey Rebellion and David Bradford is available for use either at the Museum or to borrow.  Ideal for students developing projects for National History Day.

Boy Scout American Heritage Merit Badge:  Saturday workshop available with 3 week notice, except July and December.

Join the Washington County Historical Society and the Bassettown Paranormal Society on October 9th and 10th for Ghastly Tales of Gallows Hill and the LeMoyne Crematory. Hear tales of the first hangings and experience the stories of the LeMoyne Crematory as we bring the ashes of the first person cremated back to the building. The month of haunts continues the weekend of October 23rd and 24th when the Bradford House Historical Association and the Bassettown Paranormal Society present Ghosts of Washington: Haunted History Walking Tours. Tours will leave from the garden of the Bradford House Museum, 175 South Main Street, Washington approximately every 20 minutes between 6pm – 9:40pm and last about an hour, ending at the Palmer House, 44 East Maiden Street.   Free parking is available on the street or in nearby city lots.  Cost is $5 per person.  Hot beverages, snacks, and souvenirs will be available for purchase.  Visit www.bradfordhouse.org for more information.  Large groups (15 or more) may book a private walking tour for 5:30 or 10:00 p.m.

The Bradford House Historical Association is presenting its 2015 Symposium on 18th Century Life and Customs in Western Pennsylvania on March 27th at 7 p.m. and March 28th at 9 a.m. This year’s 2 day event will feature 4 unique speakers who will discuss various topics concerning the history of Southwestern Pennsylvania during the 18th Century.

Our special guest for both days of the Symposium will be Mr. Bill Robling who portrays Benjamin Franklin. Friday night Mr. Robling will address attendees as Benjamin Franklin and will discuss topics of the American Revolution, the conflict between Pennsylvania and Virginia over land that is now Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the contributions that Franklin made to the United States.

Saturday, March 28th will feature Mr. Robling and scholars Rob Windhorst, who will discuss John Neville and his involvement in the Whiskey Rebellion, Park Burroughs, who will discuss the techniques he uses when researching information from the 18th and early 19th centuries, and Marc Henshaw, who will discuss river travel and trade in 18th Century Western Pennsylvania.

The event will open in the Chapel at Old Main on W&J’s campus on March 27th at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and students are free with valid ID. Saturday, March 28th’s events will begin at 9 a.m. in the Burnett Center on W&J’s campus. Tickets are $45 for pre-registration and $50 at the door (ticket price includes Friday night admission and lunch on Saturday). Friday night will also feature displays of the top 5 entries from the Middle and High School Poster Session Contest.

Vendors include: The Bradford House Gift Shop, The Washington Winery, Chicco Baccello, Rebecca’s Designs, Lighted Wine Bottles, Robert’s Woodworking, and Homemade Scarves and Ornaments.

The gift shop will be open December 5th & 6th from 11am – 5pm. During this time there will also be free tours of the Bradford House.

All vendors will be making donations to the Bradford House Museum, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

Madeleine’s Garden at the Historic LeMoyne House

Art in the Garden brings together the regions top artists in one beautiful setting.  The 21st anniversary of Art in the Garden will include many familiar faces.  We welcome several new participants in addition to the artist that you have come to know and love.

Also new for this year we welcome  students from The Kenneth J. & Shirley Yablonski Arts for Special Needs program.  This class, which meets weekly at the LeMoyne Community Center, was designed for individuals with special needs to express themselves.  They create their works of art from recycled items found at local thrift shops and yard sales.  A special exhibition tent will showcase art from the students.

Join the Bradford House Museum, The Washington Winery, and Chicco Bacello for an Unforgettable Wine Tasting Event

The Bradford House Museum, in partnership with The Washington Winery and Chicco Baccello, will be holding its first wine tasting event on Friday September 26, 2014 from 5 – 7 pm at the Museum, 175 S. Main Street, Washington, PA.  Tickets are $25 per person for advance registration or $30 at the door.  Register at The Washington Winery, 415 S.
