This is a project that has been in the works for several years, and is a follow-up of a similar publication produced in 1993 as a cooperative effort of Washington County Historical Society and Washington County History & Landmarks Foundation.

There is a need for regional coordination and cooperation of our many heritage and historical organizations. Visitors to Washington County come from and go to areas across our municipal and county lines, tracing patterns of settlement just as our ancestors did

Each organization should maintain its own individual identity and goals; but with additional knowledge of the others, we hope a cooperative spirit will development among them.  - Sandy Mansmann, project coordinator
